This Week's Secret Seasoning:
by D. Smith
This week's Secret Seasoning is... Lemon Pepper w/No Salt. Pretty simple right??? A previous colleague recommended it to me some time ago and I haven't been able to leave the stuff alone. It is the perfect flavoring for fish and poultry, and doesn't carry the negative risks associated with sodium. That's pretty important when you're trying your best to live a healthy lifestyle.
There are many makers of this tart and tasty meat treat and I have not tried them all but I'm finding my favorite is Mrs. Dash. They were pioneers in this subsection of seasoning at a time when the world's alternative was Season All.
One of my favorite uses is with fresh salmon, where I use it somewhat as a marinade. I place a few small to medium sized steaks in a zip lock bag and add a moderate to healthy amount of lemon pepper seasoning with no salt. After sealing the bag I let it chill and marinade in the refrigerator for a few hours and then I grill or bake it. From time to time I may add a dash of sea salt, but I usually do without. The flavor is incredible and it has the perfect tartness, so salt really isn't needed.
Another favorite is stir fried chicken breast with chopped asparagus. The right amount of Lemon Pepper makes this simple and quick stir fry something to brag to coworkers about.
